Christmas and the holidays

A Christmas photo with everyone home

The first Christmas without someone is hard. Some families find comfort in a holiday photo, or a card, where everyone is together again.

Everyone at the table

Christmas photos are often taken around the table or on the sofa, not standing in a row. Reunily has a Seated pose for that: tap the empty chair, or the end of the sofa, and choose it. Indoor light at Christmas is warm and mixed, with lamps, tree lights and a window. Reunily matches the direction and color of the light in your photo so they don’t look pasted in.

A holiday card with Mom or Dad

After you create the portrait, you can turn it into a simple tribute card: the photo, their name, their years and one line, such as “Forever in our hearts” or “Together this Christmas.” Choose from four designs. Night Sky suits the season, Botanical is softer, and Classic and Minimal are quiet frames.

A gentle way to include them

Not everyone grieves at the same pace. A photo that comforts one person can catch another off guard at the dinner table. It helps to show it to the people closest to your loved one first, and to let them choose whether it goes on the card, in a frame, or stays private.

Looks that suit a card

A realistic photo is lovely for the family album. For a card, many people prefer something that reads as a keepsake. These examples are from a garden wedding; your holiday photo works the same way.

Vintage Film: a warm sepia print, like the old family album.

Soft Sketch: pencil on paper, simple and quiet.

Plan for printing

Photo labs and card services get busy in December, and their holiday shipping deadlines arrive earlier than you might expect. If the picture is going on a card, make it in November. That leaves time to try a second photo of your loved one if the first result doesn’t feel right, and to order the cards without rushing.

Holiday photo questions

Can I add them to an old Christmas photo instead of this year’s?

Yes. Any photo works as the starting point, including a scan of an old print. Some families add a grandparent to the Christmas photo from the year they were too ill to travel.

How do I make a holiday card?

Create the portrait first, then open it and choose Tribute card. Add a name, dates and one line, and pick a design: Classic, Botanical, Minimal or Night Sky. Save it to Photos and send it to your print service.

Should the card say the photo was edited?

That is up to you. Many families add a short line such as “With Grandpa in our hearts this Christmas.” It is honest, it is warm, and it saves anyone from wondering.

Can the dog be in the Christmas photo too?

Yes. Choose a pet instead of a person and add a clear photo of them. Reunily keeps their coat, markings and collar.

Together this Christmas
