Memorial portrait
Memorial portraits from your family photos
For a service, a frame on the mantel, or a card: a family photo with your loved one in it, as a pencil sketch, an oil painting, a sepia print, or in soft heavenly light.

How a memorial portrait is made
For the painted looks, Reunily first adds your loved one as a realistic photo, so the face comes from your photos. Then it paints the whole image. That order is why faces stay recognizable even in an oil painting.

The looks
Five of the looks on one photo. Sketch and sepia show a different loved one, a man in a flat cap and round glasses.

Realistic
A photograph, as if they had stepped into the shot. Right for the family album and for most photos.

Heavenly Light
Soft light rays and a warm rim of light around your loved one only. No wings, no halo, nothing see-through.

Oil Painting
The whole photo as a classical painting on canvas, with visible brush strokes. Every face stays recognizable.

Soft Sketch
A detailed pencil drawing on off-white paper. Quiet and timeless, and lovely framed.

Vintage Film
A warm sepia print with gentle grain, the way photos looked in the family album.

Watercolor
Soft washes of color on paper (shown in the app’s look picker). Also in the app: a gentle heavenly glow you can add to any look.
Heavenly, without the clichés
Most “heaven” photo effects add wings, halos, clouds and a see-through figure. We left all of that out. Heavenly Light gives only your loved one a soft, warm light, with rays falling gently behind them, and keeps them solid and clearly themselves. Everyone else in the photo stays exactly as they were.
Printing for a service
- Leave a few days. Local labs can often print the same day, but framing and large sizes take longer.
- Matte paper suits sketch and oil looks; glossy suits realistic photos.
- Pick the version first. Every portrait gives you two versions. Look at both at full size before you print.
Memorial portrait questions
Which look is best for a memorial service?
There is no single answer. Realistic and Vintage Film sit comfortably next to other family photos on a display board. Soft Sketch and Oil Painting read clearly as a tribute and print well on matte paper. Heavenly Light is the most openly spiritual; some families love it, others find it too much.
Do the artistic looks cost more?
No. Every look uses one credit, and every portrait gives you two versions. Painted looks take a little longer to make, usually still within a minute or two.
Can I try the same photo in another look?
Yes. Tap Recreate on the result and pick another look. That creates a new portrait, so it uses one credit from your balance.
Can I make a portrait of them alone, for the service?
Reunily is made for adding someone to a photo with others. For a single framed portrait of them alone, a clear photo of them and a local photo lab are often the simplest route. If you want them shown with family, Reunily is the right tool.
